The Dragon Inn Public House & The Glee Club

We now make our way down Hurst Street and standing proudly between The Sly Old Fox and The Dragon public house is an old fashioned iron sign post. This is one of a 1,000 signposts funded by The Royal Bank of Scotland to mark the creation of The National Cycle Network.

Then within a few more paces we find ourselves at the door of another pub! So the next block of buildings along Hurst Street comprise “The Dragon Inn” a Wetherspoons public house, and nestling between the Dragon’s two entrances is a door to The Glee Club.

This Wetherspoon pub derives its name from the Chinese Dragon Dance which is highly popular and has a very long tradition, dating from ancient China. The dance is usually performed on big occasions, especially during Chinese New-Year celebrations. Dragons are an important part of Chinese culture, seen as a symbol of good fortune, with dragon motifs occurring frequently in Chinese art. Dragons are also celebrated in events such as the Dragon Boat Festival that takes place in Birmingham’s canals.

The Glee Club is host to live comedy, music and special events venues. It is the home of stand-up comedy, with regular mixed-bill weekend shows and big names on tour with their solo shows. It also host inspiring music gigs, spoken word & talks events and cabaret & burlesque shows.

Next to The Dragon Inn and its outside seating area is a footpath called Hurst Walk that leads to The Arcadian central Piazza.

Then there is is a row of properties with an interesting, undulating building line. This includes The Kyoto Japanese Sushi & Grill Restaurant, billed as having an ‘unlimited Japanese Sushi & Grill dishes for a fixed price with its “All-You-Can-Eat concept”’. The next building is the Puregym fitness centre: “full of top quality fitness equipment so there’s always something new to try”.

Next is The Australian Bar or Missing as it is now called.
